Most of the time I work with teams that are deeply technical, often from an engineering background. We harness that structured way of looking at the world and use it to power early stage customer discovery and validation.
Working with me isn’t easy. There is always more to do. There is always another hill to climb. (Doing ultra marathons seems to bleed over into work)
That’s because we are exploring, finding that pocket of the world that hasn’t been claimed and make it our own. Each session normally starts with an update – who have you spoken to, how many, what have you learned that validates or invalidates hypotheses. What does this mean? What blockers have you go – and then what are the next steps. Then we work together to find a path that can get rid of the blockers quickly and efficiently. Many paths are dead ends, but that’s ok. Who I am a great fit for?
I may love your idea, but I will be sceptical and cynical until you show me real world evidence that there is a problem there, and that people want it solved.
If you are growing fast, then I’m not the right person for you. If customers don’t care, or the product isn’t selling then taking a step back to doing customer discovery right is painful but necessary.
And if you want to make a product that people love, but only have the germ of an idea, well talk to me before you start building anything.
